Kaizer Chiefs’ THREE most important players

Kaizer Chiefs’ THREE most important players

Kaizer Chiefs have become increasingly reliant on young talent as several established players fail to cut the mustard.

Kaizer Chiefs’ key trio

Mduduzi Shabalala

2024-2025 is the season that Mduduzi Shabalala has started stepping up to the plate. He looks totally at home in the first team. Entrusted with performing the number 10 role, Shabalala has been an ever-present for Chiefs at the sharp end. A tally of four goals and an assist from 12 matches in the league impresses his manager but also makes him thirsty for more. News of a new contract is a boost for the player and the club and just rewards for the hard work he’s put into his craft. Arguably the team’s creative heartbeat. After moments of inconsistency in 2023-2024, Mdu is making this season his own with a string of impressive and authoritative performances.

Rushwin Dortley

Not many central defenders settle into bug club environments as the former Cape Town Spurs man has stylishly done. The 22-year-old is now a firm favourite with the fans and first choice for club and country. It’s been quite a rise, but anybody who’s been following his career closely isn’t that surprised.

Calm and cultured on the ball and impressively aggressive in the air, this guy has what it takes to become one of the best defenders in the country. Chiefs will hope he does that in their colours.

Wandile Duba

When he scored a screamer to open his account for the club as a teenager against Golden Arrows, we knew that something special was brewing. Fast-forward to 2024-2025 and Duba scored a brace to help Chiefs to a much-needed 2-1 win over Stellenbosch on Wednesday night. Chiefs have prepared a new contract for the impressive youngster and it’s easy to see why. His versatility as a wide attacker or an option through the middle makes him a key component of Nasreddine Nabi’s rebuild.
